Independents for East Herts -
Jim Thornton

"Simply put, in energising but manageable chapters, Independents for East Herts is a highly readable and honest book on working as an Independent politician in local government.

It covers all and more that I would have appreciated knowing when I started out; the reasons for going into politics, how to campaign and how to make the most of the opportunities and challenges which will face you as an elected representative in order to succeed on behalf of your community.

Having served for 23 years as a District Councillor I know the book will prove a well regarded guide."

Keith Ross OBE, Independent Leader of West Somerset District Council (we beat the tories!)

Have you ever thought you could do a better job than our elected politicians?

Have you ever wondered how you could get elected?

Have you ever been put off doing anything about this, because you have no idea how to begin, and would not have a clue what to do if you actually did get elected?

This book tells you all you need to know about getting elected to a Local Council...

For eight years Jim Thornton was an elected Councillor on East Herts Council and Hertford Area Chairman of the Conservative Party. He was thrown out of the Party when he stood for election as an independent in 2007, refusing to defend the record and behaviour of the Conservative Administration on East Herts Council.

Jim is now an appointed Member of the Executive of the Independent Network, a support group for Parliamentary Candidates, and is a Prospective Independent Parliamentary Candidate for the Poplar and Limehouse constituency.
